Boxing Equipment
If you have your sights on training as a boxer, the proper training equipment is very important. The following are some things you will have to get.
Firstly you will need some boxing GLOVES, they must be bought for both comfort and fit. Boxing glove laces need to be securely tied around the gloves at the wrist, but also ensure they are not too tight. If any lace tips are hanging off the gloves, cut them off before you begin to box. Boxing gloves should be smothered with a thinnish layer of petroleum jelly, and the laces wrapped with tape.
Hand wraps are also something you will need, ask a professional to show you the correct way to wrap the hands. Hand wraps are great for a lowering injuries in matches as well as training. Fingers should be separated as this highly improves the ability to move freely, and the knuckles definitely need to be padded as evenly as possible.
Headgear is under debate just how much it blocks injuries in boxing matches and training. But it is an undisputed fact that headgear does greatly lessen the chances of bruising, cuts and other eyes injuries. Its important headgear fits well as then it wont shift around and block your ability to see whats going on.
Cheap mouth guards are not the greatest idea, its very important a mouth guard is molded to your mouth so it sits right, the cheapest mouth guards are not fitted to your personal needs, its best to invest a few more dollars and get a mouth guard that will better protect your teeth, gums and lips.
As mouth guards are important to protect you from mouth injuries, a no-foul protector is also very important to wear at any time while boxing, no-foul protectors will give you the added protection needed if someone hits you with a low blow.
There is quite a difference between boxing shoes and regular shoes. Boxing shoes are great for ankle support and less heavy in weight then regular shoes, plus have leather soles. It’s not a good idea to wear shoes that are not made for boxing in the ring or while training, you will look awkward as you maneuver. Shoes that are not made for boxing, will also tire you out more and increase your chances of ankle injuries.
Investing in a good jump rope is a great idea, a perfectly good jump rope can be purchased for under five dollars. Jump ropes help increase your stamina, speed, flexibility and overall health.
Training apparel- there are quite a few different choices in training apparel around and the right gear makes you far more comfortable in the ring.
Boxing bags are a great way to increase and practice your boxing skills, you can make your own or get one from the store, boxing bags are most of the time made from canvas or vinyl, some are made of leather. Its not that much of a big deal, what the bag is made from as long as its hardy and durable and can take being used on a daily basis. Boxing bags are a great way to get the power up in your blows, increase your stamina and sharpen up your combination attacks. Boxing bags made at home can be a simple duffel bag filled up with sand, but buying a pro bag is probably the best idea.
Speed bags are awesome for training too, they are either mounted on a wall, or can be free standing on a floor frame. Either type can provide faster reflexes, heightened hand- eye co-ordination and an upswing in strength, there also excellent to build up stamina and longevity.
